Solo Exhibition "Drawing Characters" by Calligrapher Yuji Doy
Period: July 25th - 28th, 2023, 11:30 AM - 5:00 PM
Is it a picture, or is it text? This exhibition showcases calligraphic works that express the rich imagery inherent in "text" itself in various ways. We invite you to visit and take this opportunity to reconsider the power of words and text.
Yuji Doi
Born in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. She majored in education and Japanese history at Kanazawa University, and after graduation worked as a teacher at elementary and high schools.
After leaving the school setting, influenced by a painter friend, she incorporated art as a form of self-expression and began her artistic career with calligraphy as her root.
There, instead of simply expressing meaning, they discover possibilities beyond the concept of letters, and through the technique of "drawing and writing," they develop free and new works that depict the space between figuration and abstraction, much like paintings.
