Following the success of the NOMAD exhibition held in London in July 2025 , British illustrator Molly Maine will be holding a solo exhibition in Japan this autumn. The Tokyo venue will be S-TOKYO!

MOLLY participated in the Coliving Program in Kanazawa last year, which was planned and managed by Linnas Design. She is one of the digital nomads who participated in this project. I am very much looking forward to experiencing the landscapes of Japan and the world as seen through her eyes, and the evolving concept of "home," through her art!

NOMAD -Perspectives on Home in a Changing Japan-

Japan is experiencing a declining birthrate and an aging population, and in order to revitalize local economies, it has introduced a "digital nomad visa" to attract remote workers. On the other hand, an increasing number of young Japanese people are choosing to leave their hometowns and live in new cities or overseas. For some, like the evacuees from the Noto earthquake, leaving home is not a choice but an inevitability.

This exhibition contrasts the ever-changing lifestyles of digital nomads coming to Japan with the culture in which "home" and "hometown" have traditionally been stable. Through interviews with digital nomads, earthquake evacuees, and local residents, the exhibition visually explores the changing meaning of "home" in contemporary Japan.

This theme is personal to the exhibitor, Molly, as she herself has lived as a digital nomad for nine years. The exhibition will feature not only works related to Japan, but also illustrations from her travels to digital nomad hubs around the world. This exhibition contrasts the transient lives of digital nomads arriving in Japan with the deep-rooted traditions of a culture where the idea of “home” has historically been fixed and enduring. Through interviews with digital nomads, Noto earthquake evacuees, and members of local communities, Molly visually explores the shifting meaning of home in contemporary Japan.

As a digital nomad herself for nine years, the subject is a personal one for Molly. Alongside these Japan-focused works, the exhibition also features her travel illustrations from leading digital nomad destinations worldwide.
