concept

The following passage is a quote from Daisetsu Suzuki, a Buddhist philosopher born in Kanazawa who is known worldwide as a Zen thinker.

We are all born as artists of life. In addition to literature and art, human life itself becomes poetry. Not only poets who write, but every single movement of us humans becomes poetry and is artistically beautiful.Life is a "sumi-e" (ink painting). It must be painted once and for all, without hesitation or intellectual effort. (From the "D.T. Suzuki" special feature in the August 2020 issue of the monthly magazine "Chichi")

The concept of this program:

Discovering and embodying inner beauty;

Cultivating an Artist of Life through experience and dialogue

Main Theme:Through experiences and dialogue in Kanazawa, a city where aesthetic sense and philosophy live on, participantswill come into contact with "expressions of beauty" and become aware of "inner beauty and aesthetic sense,"ultimately taking home this as their own way of expression and cherishing it.

Co-hosted by: DANRO.inc

Program Content

Calligraphy ArtWorkshop: Focusing on the "line," the foundation of calligraphy, we will begin with a lesson to learn the basics of line. After that, we will express "the self as it is now" in the form of an abstract painting. Because calligraphy allows you to express your true self through the brush, we hope that this will be an opportunity for you to take a new look at yourself.

Kayo Nomura

ree

An abstract painter born in Nagoya, he lived in various regions, including the United States, from a young age and worked for companies both in Japan and abroad before becoming a painter. His experience living in diverse cultural spheres led him to develop an interest in energy and the realm of the mind that transcends language, and he established a unique style of work that moves back and forth between words and images. He is expanding the scope of his activities to include Dialogue Drawing®, which depicts inner thoughts through dialogue, and live sessions where he draws improvised drawings accompanied by live music, creating works that capture the energy hidden in "this moment."

Program Content

  • Omamori Drawing:

Kayo Nomura will create an improvised palm-sized piece of art that will become your "lucky charm" through dialogue. This retreat will focus on and explore the inner beauty within yourself. (Approximately 15 minutes / Artwork size: 55mm x 91mm)

  • Dialogue Drawing

Dialogue Drawing is an art session where Nomura Kayo goes a step further than omamori drawing and engages in a dialogue, drawing your inner self live. As you delve deeper into questions such as, "What does it mean to be an artist of life?" and "What is inner beauty?", the thoughts and desires that are most important to you at the moment will transform in color and shape before your very eyes, creating a work of art just for you. We hope that even after it's completed, it will become a special piece that continues to shine in your everyday life, inspiring new discoveries every time you look at it.

    (Approximately 50 minutes required / Work size: 158mm x 227mm)

    (+11,000 yen)

Life coach. While in Sri Lanka receiving Ayurvedic treatment, he began meditating after being recommended by a doctor. After returning to Japan, he studied meditation systematically and has been hosting meditation classes irregularly since 2024. From April 2025, he will be the practical coach for the first term of the Suwaru Meditation Course Ananda Course.

Program Content: Meditation WS

This is brain and heart training that calms the mind and focuses attention on one's inner self in the present moment. While "mindfulness" refers to a state in which one sharpens the five senses and focuses on what is happening outside of oneself in the present moment, "meditation" is a method of shutting down the senses and focusing on one's inner self.Even experienced yogis find it extremely difficult to suddenly close their eyes and enter a meditative state. In this lesson, we will first use breathing techniques and stretching to align the vibrations of the space and the body, and then meditate by carefully focusing on breathing. This willgently loosen up the brains of those who are busy every day and have to focus on many things at once.

He is the 10th head of the Hosokawa Goryu School of Tea Ceremony and the Hosokawa MisoryūSchool of Flower Arrangement. He runs tea ceremony and flower arrangement training classes in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Nagoya. He currently has about 50 students.

He has been active both in Japan and abroad, hosting tea ceremonies at Oxford University, Osaka Castle, Heian Shrine, and other venues, creating numerous opportunities to convey the spirituality of Japanese culture. Furthermore, since 2023, he has also served as the representative of The Japonism Academy, an educational institution that promotes Japanese culture to the world, expanding his activities globally.

During lessons and events, we value a space where people can be themselves, transcending titles and roles, and provide practical learning that applies the spirit of tea ceremony and flower arrangement to everyday life.We continue to work as a bridge that opens up traditional culture to modern sensibilities and connects it to the future.

Program Content:Matchafulness

~Silence and Mindfulness for Digital Nomads~

For digital nomads, constantly on the move and immersed in a torrent of information, time to reset the mind and hone one's sensibilities is an important activity that helps restore creativity and flexibility. "Tea Battle" dates back to the Kamakura period, a traditional tasting game in which participants compare multiple matcha teas and sense the differences between them. It is said to be the precursor to the tea ceremony. What's important here isn't the "correct answer," but rather the opportunity to reflect on one's inner self with each bowl.By focusing on the aroma, taste, and color, the mind is naturally led into a meditative state.
