Hi, I’m Chichi, the community curator at S-TOKYO 😊

On Saturday, May 10th, we participated in the Kanda Matsuri with our S-TOKYO community members and helped carry the mikoshi (portable shrine) in the Kodenmacho neighborhood!

The Kanda Matsuri is one of the three major Edo festivals, and the mikoshi procession only takes place once every two years. On this special day, the area in front of the small local shrine was packed with people and full of lively energy.

The local residents of Kodenmacho warmly welcomed us, even though it was our first time joining.

It’s rare and special to experience such a traditional neighborhood event in a big city like Tokyo. We were even lent the official festival jackets (hanten), and wearing them made us feel like true members of the community!

One of our French participants, Jérémy, wrote a wonderful article about the experience — be sure to check it out! ✨
